The Challenge
Historical data that had to outlive the systems
OCI Global is a leading European producer and distributor of ammonia, nitrate fertilizers, and hydrogen products and solutions, with a 30-year history of building and scaling sector-leading businesses.
Following several divestments, OCI needed a dependable way to retain and access historical business data for legal, tax, audit and ongoing business needs. The organisation had worked across multiple SAP ECC systems before moving to SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition in 2021, and later transitioned to SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition.
Critical historical data remained in the SAP ECC and SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition systems, and had to be retained securely in line with OCI’s business requirements and compliance obligations. A critical part of the brief was to lower cost by removing the need to maintain those legacy systems and their ongoing licences. SAP Netherlands recommended Cella Cloud, which aligned well with OCI’s need for long-term access to their data without maintaining old systems.
The solution
One structured approach to decommissioning and retention
Working closely with OCI, our partner Proceed designed a clear, structured approach to decommissioning and data retention using Cella Cloud. All legacy data from the S/4HANA production system, and company-code-specific data from the ECC systems, was extracted and migrated into Cella.
Alongside the standard reporting available in Cella, additional custom reports were defined and built to support OCI’s teams across both geographies and business lines. A five-year retention model was set up within Cella to support compliance.

A stable, compliant home for the data
With their legacy data now hosted and managed in Cella Cloud, OCI has a stable and compliant solution in place. The organisation no longer needs to maintain its legacy SAP systems, which has removed both cost and complexity – and OCI has reported that the savings achieved were significant.
